Actua is a free AI-powered actuarial calculator and exam prep tool. It uses Python + SymPy to execute calculations deterministically, ensuring every result is verified and reproducible. It covers SOA exams (P, FM, FAM, LTAM, STAM, SRM, PA), IFoA exams (CM1, CM2, CS1, CS2), IFRS 17, Solvency II, loss reserving, life insurance, pensions, and risk management.

Is Actua free to use?

Yes. Actua offers 5 free queries per day with no sign-up required, covering all 13 actuarial topic areas with KaTeX math rendering. The Pro plan ($29/month) unlocks unlimited queries, step-by-step LaTeX derivations, Python execution engine, Excel upload and export, handwriting OCR exam grading, and persistent cloud history.

Which actuarial exams does Actua cover?

Actua covers all major actuarial exam syllabi: SOA Exam P (Probability), FM (Financial Mathematics), FAM (Fundamentals of Actuarial Mathematics), LTAM (Long-Term Actuarial Mathematics), STAM (Short-Term Actuarial Mathematics), SRM (Statistics for Risk Modeling), and PA (Predictive Analytics). It also covers IFoA exams CM1, CM2, CS1, and CS2.

How does Actua verify its calculations?

Actua uses a neurosymbolic approach: the AI interprets your question and generates a Python script using SymPy or NumPy. This script is executed server-side to produce the result. The AI never performs arithmetic — only the deterministic computation engine does. Every answer includes the full audit trail: LaTeX derivation, Python code, and assumptions.

Can I upload Excel files to Actua?

Yes. Pro users can upload loss triangles, mortality tables, premium data, and any actuarial spreadsheet (.xlsx, .xls, .csv). Actua automatically detects the data type (loss triangle, mortality table, IFRS 17 data, etc.) and suggests relevant analyses. You can also export calculation results as audit-ready Excel workbooks with live formulas.

Does Actua support handwriting recognition for exam solutions?

Yes. Pro users can photograph handwritten actuarial exam solutions. Actua uses computer vision (Gemini Vision API) to extract the work into LaTeX, grade it line by line, identify errors with corrections, and provide a score out of 10. It supports SOA, CAS, and IFoA exam formats.

Who we are

Actua is an actuarial learning and calculation platform operated by Evolvion, an Australian business. This policy explains how we handle your personal information when you use Actua at actua.dev.

Data isolation

Actua data is stored in an isolated database. No data is shared with any other Evolvion product (including Trac, Flux, or any future service). Each product operates its own completely separate data infrastructure.

What we collect

All users: email address (when you create an account), a one-way hash of your IP address (for rate-limiting — we do not store your raw IP).

Pro subscribers: chat history (synced to the cloud for persistent access), exam image uploads used for AI grading.

What we do not collect: payment card details. All payment processing is handled by Stripe. We only store a Stripe customer ID for billing purposes.

How we use your data

Your data is used to provide the Actua service: authenticating your account, enforcing usage limits, storing your chat and exam history (Pro users), and processing subscription billing through Stripe. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.

Third-party services

Actua uses the following third-party services to operate: Supabase (authentication and database hosting), Stripe (payment processing), Google Gemini and Groq (AI model providers for answering queries), and Plausible Analytics (cookieless, anonymized website analytics). Your queries are sent to AI providers to generate responses but are not used to train their models. Plausible collects no personal data and cannot identify individual users.

Data retention

Chat history and exam uploads are retained while your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data is permanently removed within 30 days. Free-tier usage data (hashed IP counters) is automatically purged daily.

Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and, where applicable, the GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. To exercise these rights, contact us at support@actua.dev.

Actua uses essential cookies only for authentication session management (Supabase auth tokens). We do not use tracking cookies or advertising cookies.

For basic usage analytics (pageviews, feature adoption), we use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-first, cookieless analytics tool. Plausible does not collect personal data, does not use cookies, and is fully compliant with GDPR, CCPA, and PECR without requiring a consent banner. No individual user can be identified from the data collected.
